Science Project Phases:

       Phase I: (25 points)

·       Buy a spiral notebook with lined paper that is three hole punched. It will be dedicated to for your science project. (DUE WED., SEPT. 17)

·       Choose 4 possible topics or projects that you could conduct for this year. We will narrow it to one or two that you will work on this year. Only one project will need to have a final paper written and be submitted to the Science Fair in May 2009. (DUE WED., SEPT. 17)

·       Submit details as to how you will conduct each of your four projects (i.e., List the statement of the problem, hypothesis, and explain how you will test your hypothesis). (DUE WED., SEPT. 24)

·       You and your teacher will use the above information to select the best project(s) for you and come up with a well written statement of the problem for your project(s). (DUE NOV. 21)

Phase II: (75 points)

·       Project development phase. This phase will involve research in the library and internet to gather information on your topic. You will organize your research information and use it to begin a rough draft of your project paper.

·       You will develop a detailed calendar for execution of your project (including time durations for such project elements as the planning stage, research stage, investigation/experiment stage, data analysis stage, rough draft development, and fair display preparation).

·       You will develop a detailed list of materials needed for your project investigation/experiment (e.g., computer access, maps, beakers, scales, probes, cameras, cages, water samples, aquariums, etc.).

·       You will execute your investigation/experiment and collect data. Most data will first be recorded in your project spiral notebook and then transferred to either Excel or Word so it can eventually be summarized in a chart or graph format. You will keep a weekly log of work accomplished on your project.

Phase III: (100 points)

·       Upon completing your investigation/experiment and research in Phase II above, you will complete your rough draft with your conclusion regarding the outcome of your investigation/experiment.

·       I will grade the rough draft and suggest changes for improvement of the paper. Then you will write the final draft of your paper and turn into me.

·       You will complete your science fair display at home and enter it in the science fair.

·       HomeYou will present your project at the science fair, which includes telling the judges about your problem or question, the benefit(s) of solving the problem, the procedure you followed, and your findings (or conclusion).
